The Risk of Neglecting to Change Your UV Aluminum and Dichroic Reflectors
Many people only change the reflectors in their UV Curing Systems when they physically crack, break, start peeling, or even delaminate. The problem is that at that point it's highly likely that you have been running your systems at far less than optimal conditions for months or even years. We're not even talking about 80 or 90% efficiency. In many designs, reflectors are responsible for up to 70% of the curing power. This is because even though the bulb has all of the light output, it is the job of the reflector to focus that light on the target area. This is why your car's headlights aren't just bulbs aimed at the road. If they were, it's unlikely you'd be able to see more than a foot or two in front of your car at night. Sometimes you can compensate for foggy or milky reflectors by running the UV lamps at a higher power but that leads to considerably shorter lamp life.
Now, we understand why most people don't want to change reflectors often. There are two major reasons:
1. The big brands charge thousands and thousands of dollars for reflectors.
and
2. They are kind of a pain in the butt to change.
So, we're here to help you with both of those. We manufacture curing reflectors for the vast majority of UV systems in existence so give us a call and we'll help you find the exact one! If we don't have it, we can get them done in a very short turnaround time. Finally, for those designs with really complicated maintenance, you can send us your lamp cartridge and we'll change it for you and mail it right back!
